To cultivate effective leadership within Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) communities.
At STEMMCulture, we help expand the capacity of senior organisational leaders to have a positive impact on organisational performance.
We live in challenging times, which require a shift in thinking and relating.
At STEMMCulture, our experienced and innovative colleagues are at the forefront of facilitating transformational shifts in leaders. With a deep understanding of the issues people are facing at work, at home and across the globe, we focus on expanding wisdom and the capacity to have a positive impact on organisational performance. We help people learn new ways of thinking and acting to use to their advantage to become more agile, creative, and successful.
Building the collective intelligence of organisations.
Our proprietary methodology facilitates intelligent social and organisational change and allows people to see that which is hidden, values that have been overlooked and structures that are yet to be formed. It builds a different way of learning, focusing on the individual and the group and organisational systems. The learning environment embraces a collective exploration of problems beyond what is achievable through personal mastery alone and provides just-in-time learning at the point of need with clear links to emerging goals, performance outcomes and application to work
What we believe
Increasing the collective intelligence of an organisation so that continual progress can be made on ‘wicked problems’ or ‘dilemmas’ creates the competitive advantage of today.
Many of the most pressing challenges for organisations involve dealing with very complex problems. These problems share a range of characteristics—they go beyond the capacity of any one person to understand and respond to, and there is often disagreement about the causes of the problems and the best way to tackle them. These complex problems are sometimes called ‘wicked’ problems or dilemmas. They are impossible to solve because of incomplete, contradictory, and changing requirements that are often difficult to recognise.
Not all problems are wicked. Wicked problems are different because traditional ways of solving problems can’t resolve them. Confusion, discord, and lack of progress are tell-tale signs that an issue might be wicked.
Most social problems—such as those related to organisational culture—are wicked. They can’t be “fixed.” Due to their system qualities, effective change demands collaboration, and most importantly, perseverance. They require innovative, comprehensive actions that can be modified in the light of experience and on-the-ground feedback. While personal leadership mastery is a pre-requisite for this, it is insufficient for making significant progress.
Our approach gives people the confidence to respond flexibly and creatively to such problems. It is practical, as well as theoretical, and narrows the gap between learning and work. Activities reach directly back into each person’s workplace to ensure that learning is in context and that appropriate responses to change can emerge. In this way, we support not just innovation but getting the everyday things done.
We focus learning on real workplace issues and building an enduring community that is motivated to provide mutual support and expert input.
